Software and Display Combined – New BreakerVisu Complete Solution Reduces Installation and Programming Requirements

Date: 20 January 2014

Bonn … With the new combination of BreakerVisu software and display, power management company Eaton, is offering machine and system builders a cost-efficient and ready-to-use complete solution for modern power distribution. The BreakerVisu system is able to visualize the data of up to 48 circuit-breakers and measuring devices on a color display and to also store it in log files. The package solution consists of a 7” or 3.5” color display and the preinstalled visualization and logging software. This eliminates the need by the user for any programming during the installation, and separate displays for individual switches are no longer required. As a self-configuring plug and work system, BreakerVisu reduces the effort required for installation and commissioning to a minimum. It also contains new functions: BreakerVisu thus indicates the wear of the main contacts of the NZM circuit-breakers to the user, can operate as a gateway for central data transfer to a control center and for the first time connects third-party systems via Modbus RTU communication. The BreakerVisu system thus offers machine and system builders an even simpler and more cost-efficient solution for the central monitoring of plants and their energy consumption.

In the new version, BreakerVisu can transfer plant data centrally via the gateway function with Modbus TCP to a higher-level control system. Third-party devices are integrated via Modbus RTU by importing their registers via a configuration file into the visualization and logging system. BreakerVisu helps to acquire the data from circuit-breakers, such as currents, switching states and load warnings quickly and clearly, as well as display this information dynamically on an http page. The Multi-Breaker Display enables the user to display all the operating data clearly. As well as the local display, the possibility of remote access via Ethernet TCP/IP is also provided. All events are automatically logged in a file by the system. Furthermore, the software is also self-configuring. This means that the connected devices are detected automatically, and event and energy logging is always time stamped. A basic PC with Office tools is all that is required for evaluating the data. Users can thus use BreakerVisu to implement energy optimization measures in accordance with the environment standard DIN EN ISO 50001. The openness for third-party systems, the variable topology and the gateway function make BreakerVisu into an independent, flexible power management solution.

Integrated energy measuring and communication
The BreakerVisu system also enables an automatic readout of the diagnostic data of the NZM3-MC and NZM4-MC compact circuit-breakers of the xEffect series. With their integrated measuring and monitoring functions, these are now able to measure and transmit current and voltage values for each phase with the corresponding power and energy values. The integrated measuring function saves space and installation effort compared to conventional systems. Communication is implemented via interface modules for Modbus RTU or SmartWire-DT. The data can then be transferred to Eatons BreakerVisu or a customized control system. The circuit-breakers are provided with a wear indication function (BreakerHealth), that indicates the completed switch operations of the contact system to the user. BreakerVisu thus always provides you with the latest information on the operating state of the circuit-breakers.

New measuring transducer for retrofitting
Furthermore, BreakerVisu in conjunction with XMC measuring and communication modules enables existing plants to be equipped very simply for modern energy measuring and evaluation. The NZM-XMC-TC-MB measuring transducer module from Eaton is a new module of the XMC series that is ideal for retrofitting. The TC module (TC stands for transducer) enables the use of existing current transformers, voltage tap-offs and wiring on a machine or plant. The rail-mounted module can be installed quickly and with little wiring effort required, and can be integrated in BreakerVisu via Modbus RTU. It can be connected to current transformers that are standardized for a 5 A secondary current. The transformer ratio and other settings can be made conveniently via the Eaton Modbus Configurator supplied. Thanks to its compact size, the module can be installed compactly in the switch panel.

NZM compact circuit-breakers from the Eaton portfolio, IZMX16/IZMX40 air circuit-breakers of the NRX series, air circuit-breakers of the IZM26 series as well as the NZM-XMC communication modules can normally be integrated in BreakerVisu.
